Chapter 3

TL: Knight Errant

In the storage, Kim Joon-woo found three Class Change Scrolls.

Among these, two shone with a blue light.

A blue glowing Class Change Scroll typically signifies it’s for primary class changes.

So, it was fortunate to even have one, but there were unexpectedly two primary class change scrolls. However, Kim Joon-woo was still immensely disheartened.

‘As expected…’

Both scrolls represented classes that were impossible for Kim Joon-woo to change to with his current stats.

—————

– Assassin Class Change Scroll –

Class: Assassin [1st tier]

A class specialized in assassinating enemies with sharp and lethal attacks. Assassins are adept at hiding in the darkness…

Minimum Requirements for Use

Strength 5, Agility 25

—————

– Martial Artist Class Change Scroll –

Class: Martial Artist [1st tier]

A class optimized for learning all kinds of martial arts. Martial Artists excel in one-on-one combat, surpassing other classes…

Minimum Requirements for Use

Strength 15, Agility 15, Health 15

—————

Furthermore, the ‘Martial Artist Class Change Scroll’ was a rare item that could be changed to an overpowered class in the 2nd or 3rd class change.

If sold to users in the Dimensional Rift, it could fetch millions of won in cash.

But for Dio, it was nothing more than a pipe dream.

He couldn’t even meet the low requirement of Agility and Health 15.

“Sigh…”

This made Dio feel depressed.

In the world of OTF, everything always went smoothly for him.

He couldn’t understand why things had become so frustrating since the last update.

‘Could it be… because it’s become real?’

After entertaining this absurd thought, Dio shook his head and picked up the last Class Change Scroll.

The light wrapping around the last scroll was purple.

Purple glowing scrolls were usually used for secondary class changes, but Dio was grasping at straws.

Who knows?

Maybe it’s a purple-colored primary class change scroll because it’s an exceptionally good class.

‘But if it were such a great item… I wouldn’t have forgotten it.’

With little expectation, Dio opened the scroll.

And as expected…

“Sigh.”

It was a scroll for secondary class change.

—————

– Class Change Scroll / Talent Breakthrough –

Class: ??? [2nd tier]

A scroll that allows class change to a 2nd tier class suitable for the current class and character development status.

Can be used at the altar of the Forgotten Temple.

Minimum Requirements for Use

Users below a 1st tier class

Fame 500 or more

—————

Inevitably, even the last glimmer of hope was extinguished, and curses burst from Dio’s lips unknowingly.

“Damn it!”

Even a crappy class okay?

Just please let me change classes.

If I can just change classes, I’ll cover everything else somehow.

“……”

Dio, sitting down heavily with a dazed expression, still had the information window of ‘Talent Breakthrough’ Class Change Scroll flickering before his eyes.

And Dio, staring at that system window with unfocused eyes.

But then, the next moment.

“Huh? Wait…!”

Something caught Dio’s eyes, and a flicker of interest appeared.

‘Come to think of it… This secondary class change scroll doesn’t have a minimum stat requirement, does it?’

Dio’s brain started working at full speed again.

* * *

OTF was renowned for being more realistic and flawless than any other virtual reality game.

Over the years of its operation, not even a minor bug had been discovered in OTF.

The development team of OTF had not shown a single flaw.

Thus, even the notoriously clever Korean players couldn’t find any tricks in OTF.

That’s why Dio saw a possibility in the system window that appeared before him now.

Specifically, in the ‘Minimum Requirements for Use’ section of the 2nd tier class change scroll information window.

These two requirements were something that Dio’s current character could easily meet.

‘It might be a bit of a stretch, but… being jobless still counts as below a 1st tier class.’

OTF had never shown a single flaw so far.

Would the developers of OTF really have set such a careless condition?

As these thoughts flowed through his mind, Dio stumbled upon a possibility.

It was the existence of a ‘hidden piece’ that couldn’t be found through normal gameplay.

Successfully undergoing a 2nd tier class change without having done a 1st tier change, at level 100?

Dio’s intuition sharply kicked in.

‘There’s a good chance it’s possible.’

In OTF, the conditions for use are absolute.

If a loophole is found in these absolute conditions?

That’s not a loophole, it’s something intended by OTF.

Such thoughts strongly dominated Dio’s mind.

‘I can easily get 500 fame by looting the storage…’

The other condition, fame, could be met by donating junk items to the temple in the base village.

For an ordinary level 10 character, accumulating 10 fame might be difficult, but Dio was a storage character.

“Good. This is really worth trying.”

Now, there was only one problem to solve.

That was the location of the class change, the Forgotten Temple.

It wasn’t too far from Avera Village, but still, it was a place where level 100 monsters appeared.

If he could just get there safely…

There was definitely a way to make it work.

‘Just think a little more, Joon-woo. There’s surely a way to handle this.’

Calming his excitement, Dio began to search through the storage again, methodically.

And after about 30 minutes.

“Yes. This might work…!”

Kim Joon-woo, who had been losing his spirit just a moment ago.

No.

Dio, who now needed to survive in the world of OTF, had his eyes blazing with determination once again.

* * *

<Forgotten Temple>

The temple, now forgotten, once worshipped an ancient deity.

Being a literally forgotten god, there were no worshippers to visit the temple.

As such, the Forgotten Temple was essentially abandoned by humans.

This naturally made it a very dangerous place.

And in Dio’s experience, who had explored every corner of OTF…

‘Normally, going to the Forgotten Temple with a level 10 body would be suicidal.’

But Dio eventually found a way.

And the key to that was held in his hand, a piece of metal the size of a palm.

‘I never thought I’d use a mercenary badge like this.’

The item in Dio’s hand was a mercenary badge.

Specifically, an unidentified item named ‘Someone’s Mercenary Badge’.

—————

– Someone’s Mercenary Badge (Unappraised) –

The relic of someone who failed a mission.

The owner of this mercenary badge may have a loved one waiting for them for a long time.

—————

In OTF, there are items that are commonly dropped by any monster.

Among them, ‘Someone’s Mercenary Badge’ is a rare item that drops at a very slim chance.

This item is set as the relic of a mercenary fallen to monsters.

It also has a setting where the value completely changes based on the appraisal result, and furthermore.

‘This mercenary badge can be used to return to the mercenary guild after being appraised.’

Naturally, the gold reward varies drastically depending on the randomly identified grade.

Whether it’s compensation for the victim’s relic or something else.

Anyway, for players, it’s easiest to think of it as a sort of minor lottery.

The mercenary badge Dio currently had was obtained from a place related to the long-lost Holy Kingdom.

‘Was it the Tarot Temple? Dropped along with junk items from the boss of that area?’

Literally being junk, he carried it around and just happened to store it in the storage when passing through Avera Village, not knowing it would come in handy like this.

‘The chance of getting an S-grade is 0.001%, right? Well, I’ll never hit such odds anyway.’

But what Dio was aiming for now wasn’t a high-grade mercenary badge.

He wasn’t thinking of using it as a lottery ticket.

‘The chances of getting a D or C grade are the highest…’

What Dio needed now was a mercenary identity.

More specifically, he needed a suitable identity of a lower grade.

‘D grade. Yes. Just that would be appropriate.’

Dio planned to disguise his identity with this mercenary badge and participate in a mission to the Forgotten Temple.

Anything but the lowest F-grade would be fine.

The minimum grade to accept missions from the mercenary guild in Avera Village was E-grade.

‘Of course, I’ll be treated as a nobody…’

But that was actually the best scenario.

As an E-grade mercenary, he wouldn’t be considered a combat force.

Instead, he would have to show other capabilities.

Who is Dio?

No NPC in Avera Village would have more information than him.

If he just talks smoothly in front of the mission handler…

Being selected as a guide would be a piece of cake.

“Good. Perfect.”

Having organized his thoughts this far, Dio used the appraisal scroll he had previously taken from the storage on the mercenary badge.

Whoosh-!

As bright light emitted from the mercenary badge touched by the appraisal scroll, Dio thought to himself.

‘Please, just avoid F-grade…!’

Whoosh-.

But a moment later.

“Uh…”

A strange expression appeared on Dio’s face as he looked at the mercenary badge that floated before his eyes.

* * *

The mercenary guild in Avera Village was always bustling with many mercenaries.

Being a base village surrounded by dungeons, there was a never-ending supply of missions at the mercenary guild.

“What brings you here?”

“I’m here for the Kael Mountain search mission. Is it still open for participation?”

“Of course, mercenary.”

“I’d like to submit my application.”

“Could I just check your mercenary badge, please?”

“Sure, here you go.”

The waiting room was lined with mercenaries who had come to accept missions.

Creak-.

So, when someone new entered the guild, nobody paid him any attention.

Even though he was dressed in ragged clothes and wore a white mask, an odd outfit to say the least.

Stomp- Stomp-

However, as the slowly entering figure ignored the queue and walked forward.

“Umm…?”

The mercenaries couldn’t help but focus their attention on him.

“What’s that guy doing?”

“Doesn’t he see we’re all lined up here?”

Whispers filled the quiet waiting room.

It was natural.

The privilege of ignoring the queue and directly receiving missions was given only to mercenaries of at least B-grade.

But the equipment of the man now in the mercenaries’ view was embarrassingly subpar, even for a mercenary.

“Doesn’t look like he even knows the basics of being a mercenary, should we kick him out?”

“Has the Avera mercenary guild become so lax that it allows someone wearing cheap leather armor like that?”

But the man ignored the mercenaries’ sneering and strode confidently towards the receptionist.

And the next moment.

“What brings you here?”

As soon as the man spoke, the atmosphere in the room turned icy.

“I’d like to meet the master.”

The guild master of a base village was not someone just anyone could meet.

“Did… did that guy just say what I think he said?”

“Did I hear that wrong?”

The man’s request for a private audience with the guild master, even addressing him informally, was nothing short of shocking for the mercenaries.

It was an event that was bound to leave them in disbelief.
